How many ancestors?

There is a lot of interest in genealogy these days.  The Internet has made it much easier for anyone to trace their roots.  Going back too far, however, could create a confusing mess.  If we go back as little as 500 years we come to the perplexing realization that you have roughly 1,000,000 ancestors.  Shocking but true.
